Welcome to the Literary Garden’s news!

I hope you all enjoy the selection we have in store for you this month. We invite you to stop by and have a read of the wonderful stories, poetry and challenges, all of which continue to showcase the fantastic display of our ladies’ talent!

And if you enjoy writing, why don’t you come and join us?! There’s plenty for you to do here, even if you don’t think you are a writer. There is plenty of room for you to cosy on up with the ladies, and the Mini Challenges are a great way to teach us a little more about the art of creative writing whilst enjoying one another’s efforts. Please feel free to stop by the Literary pages and take a look. We’d love to have you!

Please don’t forget to stop by and read about our Spotlight Author of the Month…..just who could she be this month….*s*

Mini Challenge Nook
Reported by Christina

This month we wrote about a flower native to where each of us live, included are photos of those lovely flowers, as well as where would we like to be if we could go? We also penned reviews for a book we had written or were to write. Some interesting results there. Come and stop by the Garden and see the wonderful submissions by the ladies!

These challenges continue to be a wonderful success in the Garden, prompting so much feedback and participation. And they are a lot of fun. You can read the selection of August’s Mini Challenges (as well as previous months) on the Literary website at http://www.wosib.org/literary/ under Mini Challenges, and by clicking on the corresponding month.

The theme for September was to write a story based on the following theme: "Looking through a window, you can see pictures on walls and furniture in a room. It seems strangely familiar. Suddenly you are in the room, and it is a room you have been in so many times....".

Congratulation to our September winners! A special thank you to all who took the time to read the stories and send in your votes.

Poetry Nook

Memories play a big part in our dreams so our theme for September was to write about Dreams and Memories in whatever way reflects or appeals to you. Dreams are something which most of us can never recall upon waking, but there are times when a dream is so vivid and so real that it stands out in our minds long after we open our eyes. Quite often dreams are a result of something in our subconscious trying to tell us something or something which may have occurred some time ago and for some reason comes to light suddenly.

Congratulations to all our winners. Linda and I have also decided that since everyone makes the effort to write and submit that they each deserve an award regardless – so beginning from June, we introduced the Participation Award for all those who submitted to the Nook.

A special thank you to all who took the time to read the poems and cast your votes.

Non Fiction Nook

Happy Fall Ya'll...well, here in the States anyway! In anticipation of Halloween, the Sisters of the Literary Garden picked up their Pens to share of the one moment in time which covered their world with cob-webs....metaphorically speaking, of course. Please stop by to read our Non-Fiction writes, as we share of our souls through the gift of the written word.

For the month of October, our fearless Leader has taken a much needed breather and, we will be afforded the opportunity to share of our Muse without the prompts set before us each month. If you love the Power of the Pen and, would like to join us, please flutter on by the Literary Garden to take a gander. We'll be leaving the lights on for you and, hope to see you soon!

Comfort & Celebrations Nook
Reported by Joanne

Hello I'm Joanne and in charge of the Celebrations and Comforts Nook. Here members of the Literary Garden create poems or very short stories for the Celebrators Garden to use in their pages for celebrating happy events, such as birthdays, anniversaries, births, engagements and other joyous events. They also write and send poems of support and comfort for those who are ill or in difficulty as well as sympathy and condolences for the death of a loved one, including pets. In the northern hemisphere we are in the middle of a bright and colorful Autumn, while our Sisters in the U.S. prepare for Halloween and eventually Thanksgiving. In the southern hemisphere our Sisters are in the process of enjoying a full Spring with is myriad expositions of colors and sounds. Wherever you are there is always an occasion to celebrate a happy and blessed season.

Expressions Nook
Reported by Dusty

Expressions is a spot where you can write on any given topic and really express your feelings about it. The topic for September was what Aggravation. What bugs (annoys) you, or has annoyed you the most. Have a peek and see what some of our members said aggravates them the most.

Whimsical Nook
Reported by Linda

This is a delightful little nook where snippets are shared and you are guaranteed a smile or two during a visit here. It has been lovely to see more submissions coming through for Whimsical.

I would like to thank everyone who submitted this month. I know all of our Sisters here appreciate your thoughts on their pages.

Until next month, Happy Reading,
