Child Care Tips

Childhood food allergies

If your child has a food allergy it can be a nightmare for the whole family! For example if they are allergic to dairy products there are so many things that they can't have and it's expensive to keep buying dairy free products! Without dairy products your child is at risk of calcium deficiency and they can't take supplements so what do you do?

It's not ideal but soya can be a great alternative! I don't know what is available throughout the rest of the world (I'm in the UK) but you can get soya milk, soya chocolate and soya ice cream so your child doesn't have to feel like they're missing out on anything!

When you first find out that your child has a food allergy, ask to see a Dietician and they can help you to work around the allergy while still being sure that your child has everything they need. Also, ask your family doctor for some suggestions and allergy tests for other allergies.

Also look online for allergy support groups and if you can't find one then start one! It's hard but not impossible to live with a food allergy!
