Garden Members of The Month
By Bonnie

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE GARDEN MEMBER OF THE MONTH!!

Staff Member of the Month
Our Staff Member of the Month is someone who has always taken a few moments of her time each day to send through a cheery note through staff, brightening spirits, and reminding us that each day can be a good day. She's usually very quiet in the background, yet runs her garden with a great deal of success. She took on the position at a time when the Garden was on the verge of collapsing. The garden's webpages were a mess, with hundreds and hundreds of pages to correct and change, yet she dug in and turned the garden AND its webpages into a success! She stepped up when she was needed and never asks for anything. She is well deserving to be named Staff Member of the Month. Please congratulate DIANE of the Recipes Garden!!!! Well done, Diane, and thank you so much for reviving such a delightful garden!!

LITERARY
Literary Member of the Month is.... Joanne

1. What is your favorite Literary Garden Nook and why? Challenges; they're fun and it's an interesting challenge to express a thought, idea or mini-story in just 250 words. For me the real challenge would be to write poetry, which isn't really my style, but I am always willing to try something new. This would be a real challenge I'd love to master someday.

2. What do you like best about being a member of the Garden? I love the camaderie and friendly banter, and the sharing our our own unique styles through the weekly challenges. Caring and sharing through our different writing styles, ideas, customs and ways of thinking in an openminded way shows that we are indeed practicing the principles that make up Women of Strength and Inner Beauty.

3. Do you believe "the pen is mightier than the sword?" Why? Yes, because it is through the written word that humanity first forged its own particular history. Once that history began as the written word, then all other aspects of life eventually followed. Some of the world's greatest literature, including religious and philosophical works, have influenced humanity to the point of becoming pivotal references upon which it lives and thinks.

4. If you had the chance to speak on international television and your speech had to be about you, what would you tell the world? I wouldn't talk about myself personally, but about my combat against global warming. I would explain that it is up to each and everyone of us to do our part, for we are responsible for the lifelihodd of Mother Earth. This is even more so when we consider the fact that the Earth is all humanity has left in the Universe.

5. Do you have any pets? No, not any more. Our beloved dog passed over the Rainbow Bridge last February. Due to the fact that we will be spending the next few months fixing up our house, repainting and restoring, and also plan an extended trip to New Zealand to see my daughter, we won't be able to look for another pet before sometime next year.

6. When life gets you down, who can make you laugh? Whenever I feel down I go outside and take a walk. I feel very close to the inner nature of the Earth, and feel inspired by trees and from being around natural things, like plants and even little animals. If it's late at night, then I go out in my garden or outside in front of my house and look up at the night sky. Just seeing all the stars out there, and seeing the different constellations, is sobering enough for me. I then realize that my problems are not as big or important as the great movements in the Universe above me. Then I let them go.

7. Do you collect anything? If so, care to share? Yes, I like to collect old books. I have several from the 19th century in English and French. My favorite is a French ladies' book from the early Napoleanic period (dated 1806). It is Book 1 of a larger collection of the tales of the One Thousand and One Nights. A lady would keep it in her little handbag and read it during while travelling or in a public park, for example. 8. Can you tell us one thing about yourself that we might find surprising? Not everyone knows that I am partially deaf (80% loss). I can talk and wear hearing aids, and have learned that through intuition and determination it is possible to prove that a physical handicap shouldn't prevent one from following his/her special dream or higher goal in life.

9. What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day? I particularly enjoy walking in the rain; it can be quite inspiring sometimes. As a rule I like to curl up in an armchair with a favorite book and a cup of herbal tea. As I enjoy historical novels, some of them are pretty thick and very involving stories.

10. Who or what inspires you to write? I am mostly inspired by being surrounded by natural things, even in a room full of plants. Walking down the street, Seeing a blackbird at work or the wind rusling in the trees is enough to get the ideas going. On the other hand, I like to take a ride to the big city (for me this is Paris); there's always something new to see or visit. For that reason I always carry a little notebook around with me wherever I go.
