Literary

Greetings ladies! I trust you are all enjoying your summer vacations, for those in the northern hemisphere, while us southern hemisphere folk (ie, Australia…*g*) are snuggled in front of woodfires and heaters, not to mention drowning in our downpour of rain this winter. In June alone we had the highest rainfall here in two weeks. But on with what’s new in Literary…

Well I hope you all enjoy the selection we have in store for you this month. We invite you to stop by and have a read of the wonderful stories, poetry and challenges, all of which continue to showcase the fantastic display of our ladies’ talent!

The Mini Challenges Linda and I introduced a few months ago continue to be a wonderful success in the Garden, prompting so much feedback and participation. And they are a lot of fun. You can read the selection of June’s Mini Challenges (as well as previous months) on the Literary website at http://www.wosib.org/literary/ under Mini Challenges, and by clicking on the corresponding month.

And if you enjoy writing, why don’t you come and join us?! There’s plenty for you to do here, even if you don’t think you are a writer. There is plenty of room for you to cosy on up with the ladies, and the Mini Challenges are a great way to teach us a little more about the art of creative writing whilst enjoying one another’s efforts. Please feel free to stop by the Literary pages and take a look. We’d love to have you!

Please don’t forget to stop by and read about our Spotlight Author of the Month…..just who could she be this month….*s*

Fiction Nook
Reported by Christina

The Fiction theme for June was inspired by the story behind the book “Picnic at Hanging Rock”. Widely (and incorrectly) regarded as being based on a true story, it follows the story of three students and a school teacher who disappear on an excursion to Hanging Rock, in Victoria Australia, on St Valentine's Day, 1900.” The assignment was to write your own version of the story with its mystery and outcome of your choosing. One did not have to be familiar with the original story at all - just write one’s own version pertaining to what you think may have happened to these girls and teacher.

Congratulation to our June winners! A special thank you to all who took the time to read the stories and send in your votes.

The Secret of Hanging Rock by Christina Smith aka Stina

Poetry Nook

A rainbow is one of the most beautiful things we can witness and even the word itself can conjure up many things and what it means to us. June’s theme was inspired by the word RAINBOW in any way, shape or form, and using one of the following prompts: Promise...Dreams...Friendship...Beauty

Congratulations to all our winners. Linda and I have also decided that since everyone makes the effort to write and submit that they each deserve an award regardless – so beginning from June, we introduced the Participation Award for all those who submitted to the Nook.

A special thank you to all who took the time to read the poems and cast your votes.

Challenge Nook
Reported by Linda

The Northern Hemisphere girls have braved the elements of summer and heat and fires while those in the Southern Hemisphere are shivering and coping with winter storms, winter chills, and damaging storms and weather extremes

Our theme for this month has been "The Elements" and there are quite a few articles which remind us of weather, seasons and patterns. Please read and enjoy. Thankyou to those who contributed - The Challenge Nook at times is a challenge for me to find something different for you - to stir your muse and get you writing again.

I am proud to head up this Nook and be part of the Literary Group of WOSIB. Thank you to Christina and all members for your activity and involvement.

Take a bow ladies - we are proud of you.
Love Linda.

Non Fiction Nook

I do Pray this month finds you each happy and well. During the month of June, the Ladies in the House shared from their souls, the one moment in time which formed the person they are today. It was with admiration and pride I reviewed their own personal stories. I do hope you will stop in to read the one moment of the ticking clock which helped to mold our Sisters, into the beautiful Women of Strength and Inner Beauty, we know each of them to be.

For the month of July, we will be celebrating the day of our personal independence, as we share the first steps of our freedom. I am looking forward to feeling each of our Sisters, as they share of their souls. I do hope you will join us as well, by sharing your own independence day. Please join us in the Literary Garden, for this expression of Sister-Hood and more. We'll be leaving a light on for you and, we hope to see you soon!

In His Word-With His Love,
Kesia aka Nasty Angel

Comfort & Celebrations Nook
Reported by Joanne
Hello I'm Joanne and in charge of the Celebrations and Comforts Nook. Here members of the Literary Garden submit poems or very short stories to help celebrate happy events, such as birthdays, anniversaries, births, engagements and other joyous events. They also write and send peoms of support and comfort for those members who are ill or in difficulty as well as sympathy and condolences for the death of a loved one, including pets. In the northern hemisphere summer is in full swing along with its outdoor activites, joys and bright long days. In the southern hemisphere our sisters are settling down, warm and snug against the onslaught of the coming winter. Wishing everyone a happy and blessed season wherever you are.
