Always around the new year, everyone is buzzing about New Year's resolutions. It seems that everyone has them, but does anyone ever follow through with them? I know I'm horrible at actually keeping them. Every year I make resolutions and start the year with the intent to keep them. It always seems after the first few months they fall by the wayside. I don't know if the goal is too lofty or what, but I don't think (or can't remember) keeping one yet. Goals are great to set, but I think that with the resolutions, we have to look at the underlying reason for setting them. I've always set them as a way to enhance myself, but if the road to getting to that resolution isn't fixed, it only sets you up for failure. Perhaps that's why I never seem to keep those resolutions.
This year, I've made it simple. My resolution is a broad topic that allows me to actually accomplish it without being down on myself if specific elements are not there. I'm also trying to change the way I do things to help enable accomplishing this. The goal is to actually take care of the resolution this year and not let it fall by the wayside.
I've been looking back over the past two years, and I realize that things in my life need to change. I've not had an easy time of it the last two years. I want to make my resolution to enhance my life and make it better. Throughout all this, I also keep in mind that there were good things that happened, and I have to be grateful for the small things in my life. Pushing forward for 2008, I can only hope that things get better. Here's wishing everyone a better 2008!
