Dee Mattia - February 2008

Welcome to Spotlight..

Please tell us about yourself & your family:

In between my love of gardening, ( I dabble) cooking, (I create meals for one) writing and poetry, I design, manage and maintain my large family website. Each month I put out a private newsletter to my friends and family, it helps us keep "in touch". I host my family's "The Mattia Family International Poetry Competition" - which I have been doing for years. We pay cash prizes, the poems are posted on a board, and some poems are selected for the "Fina-list" - and it is from that list that winners are chosen. We have become well known to the poets of the world. You are welcome to read our winning poems from our recent competition, closed last week. -

With no tolerance for spelling or grammar errors - the winning poems are impressive. Everyone is welcome to enter our competition, there is no entry fee, and we pay in Canadian dollars.

What are your hobbies and interests:
My school of learning has always been the Internet, my curiosity and reaction the first time I saw a computer was, "How do they do that?" I set out to learn how, my learning has never stopped. I took classes from WOSIB and any where else that offered learning, in order to find what I wanted. My passion is my three grand children - 7 great grand children, along with my nieces and nephews and their children. I love life and all that comes with it. I live alone, but I am never lonely. There is always so much to do.

Tell us a bit about where you are from:
Born to a French Canadian mother and an Italian father, I was raised in Montreal Quebec Canada. I spoke 2 languages before I attended school, I continue to use my French where possible. Several of my family members live in the city of Vancouver British Columbia, which inspired me to move here when I realized how mild the winters were. I love being able to have winter pansies in my flower boxes throughout the winter season. I live close to the downtown area, which means getting around the city is easy by skytrain, being able to use my scooter to get around has given me freedom as I await knee surgery.

When did you joined WOSIB:
I first joined WOSIB in the fall of 2002 - I left for personal reasons and I returned again in 2003. In 2003 and 2005 I received a gold award for my website design from WOSIB, they are posted on "Our Awards" pages on my family site ~ wwww.mattia.ca ~ It is not my intention to leave again, as I love the warm passionate dedication of so many creative women. There is always something new, sad, happy, all bases are covered for every subject and topic - and if its not on WOSIB, bet it soon will be!

What Gardens are you currently involved in and to what capacity:
I am in the "Revue Garden" and I think for me, that is a good place to be. I get to roam the net and I see so much beauty and breathtaking creations from every part of the world. It is so fascinating to constantly be finding something new to add to my knowledge. I wish I could join more groups, I have done so in the past, but time does not allow at present.

What's the best thing about Wosib:
The women who are a part of WOSIB are in every way creative, passionate, warm, helping and respecting human beings from every corner of the world. Each and every woman gives as much of herself as she can in a world of busy, busy, busy. In spite of all the daily real life, my e-mail contacts with WOSIB . . . Make my day! Thank you everyone.

Anything else you would like to add:
One item - It would be great to see "Tutorial Links" on WOSIB's website - well written tuts that can be printed, for those of us who find it easier learning when having the "hard copy" of the tut in front of them. Tutorials have become so much a part of my learning, finding good ones that are "printable" from the original page - would be a delight for this old lady!

Thank you for telling us about yourself Dee Mattia, please accept the award that will be e-mailed to you, as a token for being in our spotlight!
