by Joan Lowery Nixon

Submitted by Selena

I have chosen to do a 2 part book by Joan Lowery Nixon. This one is High Trail To Danger

High Trail To Danger is focused on 2 sisters Sarah Lindly 17, and Susannah Lindly 14.

Sarah Lindly worked in the boarding house along with her sister Susannah. Life was rough since their mother died and their aunt and uncle took over the boarding house. Sarah's greedy ole uncle kept asking Sarah and Susannah where their mother hid the money that she had stached away. Sarah told her uncle that she did not know where the money was. So the greedy uncle asks Susannah where the money is.

Sarah looked at her sister and Susannah said I have no idea where mother hid the money. She does not tell us everything. However Susannah does know where the money is hidden and she tells Sarah behind the chicken coop.

Susannah says take this money and go to Colorado to find father and bring him home with you. Sarah was wiery about leaving Susannah behind with the horrible aunt and uncle. Susannah told Sarah that everything has been taken care of just go down to the fence and there will be someone waiting to take you to the train station.

Sarah went on to Colorado to find their father to bring him home. Sarah & Susannah have not seen their father who left 15 years earlier to make his fortune in the silver mines.

Along the way Sarah meets Jeremy Caufield who Sarah thought he was following her since she ran away to find her father. Jeremy was a young man who had saved Sarah's life when Sarah just stood in the middle of the road due to shock of all of the people at the train station.

On the train ride Jeremy offered to but Sarah dinner and Sarah refused each time. At least until she seen the prices which she thought was outrageous. Sarah finally opens up to Jeremy and allowes him to buy her dinner on the train.

During the train ride the train suddenly stopped it was being robbed. Sarah always heard stories that trains always got robbed by Jesse James and his gang along this route so Sarah hid her money what she had left in between the seat and the back. So when the robbers took her sach only coins fell out however this robber was clever. He had one of his guys look in that spot.

Sarah pleaded with the robbers not to take the money that was the only way to being her father home. The robber said who is your father lady? Sarah said Ben Lindly and the robber instructed the other man to give her money back to her.

Jeremy and Sarah finally reach the town to where they were to take the stage on to their finishing route of Leadville. Jeremy had rented two rooms for each of them. Sarah is in the bath when she heard the door open Sarah thought it was the maid with the shampoo. It was not it was a town kid known for stealing money from people. Sarah got her money back and Jeremy and Sarah was on their way to Leadville the next morning.

Now I am stopping here as I do not want to spoil this if you choose to read this book. So below is the info you will need.

Sarah was happy to see her sister which Sarah had 2 men who wanted to court her. Jeremy Caufield and Clint Barnes. However Susannah had her eyes set on Clint Barnes, there was a box dinner fund raiser. Sarah and Susannah never knew what a box dinner was until Mrs. Hannigan at the bording house told them what it was. Sarah and Susannah both made dinners along with desert to go in the box.

The boxes were to be bidded on by the men of the occasion, the highest bidder won the box and a dance with the lady who made it. Sarah made her box very pretty Susannah just did her box as a plain jane however Susannah made the impression that her box was Sarah's box in order to have Clint as the highest bidder. The bidding went beyond Clint's means and Jeremy Caufield won the box. When the announcer read the name on the card Jeremy was dumbfounded to find out it was Susannah's box and not Sarah's

Sarah's box was won by Mr Peavey. Sarah did get to dance with both Jeremy & Clint. But not before some outlaw had a dance with the only woman who took a shot at Ely Wolfe. All of the other men flocked to Susannah for dances which gave both Jeremy and Clint time with Sarah. The dress that Susannah was wearing was their mothers but Susannah had done some alterations to where her full cleavage had shown.

Ely Wolfe was in hiding after shooting Ben Lindly. On one of Clint's stage coach rides Clint had noticed some smoke coming from one of the mine shacks. Clint and Sarah and Jeremy went to the Sheriff's office to tell them that Ely Wolfe was hiding there. Some one had tipped Ely off and Ely was gone by the time they got there.
