Week 1

Ode Challenge

Write an Ode to a Valentine in no more than 20 lines. It can be to your Valentine, a previous Valentine, a loved one, friend or to Valentines Day in general. And what better way to do so than with an Ode.

An Ode is a poem praising and glorifying a person, place or thing. Ceremonious lyric poem on an occasion of dignity in which personal emotion and universal themes are united. The form is usually marked by exalted feeling and style, varying line length, and complex stanza forms.

Ode to a Belgian Valentine

Oh tender prisms soft and sweet
Delectable and fine to eat
Your beauty rich beyond compare
Is such a treat I'll never share -
Oh how I crave your gentleness
So silky smooth, your lusciousness,
Oh fill me with your dreams divine,
A Belgian heart, my Valentine.

Ode to my Dell

Ode to my Dell
the smarter of my two brains
who keeps me updated
with snows and rains

My sisters it brought me
from near and from far
It even tell me who was arrested
at the local Kentucky bar

My Dell keeps me in contact
with my grandson I adore
Also gives me pointers
on cleaning my kitchen floor

My Dell brings to my life
laughter and so much fun
Which is why for backup
I have purchased a second one.

Ode to a Very Old Valentine

When does a Valentine become real?
Does it just come in a paper card?
Or is it something you feel in your heart
Or a tickle you can't discard.

Mine stands before me with a smile
He's been there from the start,
He asked that God give me a breath
And especially a beating heart.

My Valentine's here for all of us
For my sisters and my little bro,
He's filled with love and tenderness
A Valentine you all should know.

With words of love through eyes of hope
He's here on this special day,
There is no need for a special card
When his presence passes by our way.

This Valentine is a very old soul
He has shared over 50 of his 92 years,
So a Valentine to the likes of us
Is our father, a Valentine so dear.

Ode to Forgiveness

Valentines Day was taken away from me,
and you my Ex cannot see.
My Candy, My Flowers, are gone from me now,
as I sit here and wonder why and how.
I gave up my life, and all these years,
which now leaves me sad, and full of tears.

My love is slipping away from you,
and someday you will see what you put me through.
When you need me again, you better think twice,
because now with my daughters, my life is nice.

Forgiveness is not easy to do,
but I'm now ready to give up on you.
Now your new partner will see in time,
how hurtful you are, that you are nothing but slime.

Ode to my Valentine

My Valentine is not whom you think,
He is a giant among all, and will not shrink,
He reigns over all, from high above,
Sending us, the greatest of loves,
His son died, to give us our lives,
So we can continue to survive,
Yes, my Valentine is none other than our Saviour,
So, please could you do me this favor?
When you send your love and adoration,
Remember HIM that made all of creation!

Ode to my Lover

Your eyes are dark and looming
making its mark and my head swooning

Your mouth so wicked, firm and robust
I know one kiss will bring heavenly lust

Your hands are strong yet gentle upon my skin
With each touch it fortells me of passionate sin

You use your words wisely, speaking soft and low
Knowing full well I will never be able to tell you No

You use your body to fully caress mine
Making our hearts jocund and sublime

Oh what a misunderstood day you are
Supposedly joyous celebration of the warmth of love
In the middle of the cold of winter
Sometimes I wonder if you aren't more of a worry than anything
As I watch the last-minute men at the store
But don't misunderstand me - I do celebrate love
But I enjoy more the spontaneous gifts and the surprise romance
Than the obligatory Hallmark purchase
So, dear Valentine's Day, it's nice you bring feelings of love today
But I think we'd all like to feel loved every day

Valentines Day in Paris

On this very special day
There is one place that attracts both young and old ...
Paris, the City of Lights and Love
You can tell romance is unmistakably in the air.

On bridges, in dark corners,
On broad streets and outdoor cafés,
Eyes in eyes and hands in hands,
Love is omnipresent everywhere.

Oh to be in Paris on Valentine's Day
Surrounded by such wonderful feelings and sensations
So positive and so contagious
For me it's a dream come true

Ode To My Loving Valentine

My Valentine is more than a lover
He is my best friend and caregiver
My Valentine is a giant among men
For he has the guts to stick with me
Through thick and thin.

My Valentine is the best thing to ever happen to me
Because he is man enough to stay and see
Bless his heart he is so strong
And our love will be forever long

My Valentine and I will talk
As I try to walk, but in deep
Conversations, he and I
Will always Cry..

Together forever---Me and My Valentine!

I never thought I would love someone
As much as I love & cherish you
I truly loved the things that you did do
I know I never said those three little words
I didn't want you to think I was a nerd

Now you are gone for no one to ever see
You will never know how much you mean to me
Now that you have gone up to Heaven
My heart aches for you twenty four seven
My love for you will never be undone

God is with you now and forever more
You are an angel in waiting at the front door
When my time comes we will be reunited
A family we will become once and for all
I will say I love you at your beckon call

When you died I said I love you
But it was a little to late
For that I really did hate
Sorry I did not say I love you very much
This is written with every beat of my hearts touch.

Ode To Anubis

Anpu, Yinepu, Anubis-Your Names echo out of the depths of antiquity
And call to me in dreams of splendor and mystery.
Out of the primal darkness you came-long-limbed and flashing a feral smile.
One day I happened upon your image, and reached for you as you were reaching for me.
Your eyes, darker than the spaces between the stars
Gazed into mine, seeing into the most secret places of my heart.
Your voice,as deep and dark as a moonlit night, murmured my name
And awakened in me a half-forgotten dream, or perhaps a long-lost memory.
On the shores of a glittering sacred lake
Under the canopy of stars blazing in a velvet sky,
You took my hand, banishing a lifetime of lonliness,
and filled my heart with a song of exquisite joy.
Your name is honey upon my lips and a prayer that echoes in my soul.
Love as endless as a starry night and deeper than any ocean-
That even Time cannot cannot diminish,
envelopes us in its bittersweet cloud.
Your cool sweet lips meet mine for one last time and you say:
"In dark of night or under blazing sun, ever I will be with you.
And when this life falls away, together we'll step through the door of Infinity,
Where our love shall know no end."

Week 2

A "Fib Form" Challenge

This week we are doing something a little different which I came across in another writing group. I hope you will all give it a go and let's have some fun with it.

The Fib Form
The Fib, short for Fibonacci, was inspired by the numbers that begin the Fibonacci sequence (Knott). The form was put together by California writer and poet, Gregory K. Pincus. Just like the Fib’s other definition (the one about lies), this form starts small and grows - almost with a life of its own.

What must a Fib Form poem have?

*Six lines.

*Twenty syllables.

*Syllable count for the six lines:

2
3
5

Picture and Challenge Words

Challenge words: ghost(s, ly), eerie, beckon(s), imagine(ary), radiant(ce), lifeless, irrupt(s), factitious, beauty, embrace(s, ed)

The Whispering Beauty of a Ghostly Imagination

Walk though my woods and listen closely
Is that whispering that you hear?
Do your senses struggle through my eerie radiance
Does my lifeless beauty cause you fear?

Clasp your hands across your mouth and silence it
Embrace your imagination that beckons for you to scream
Only then can my ghostly presence irrupt
And you'll see I'm only factitious from within your dream.

Shadow's Path

A ghostly stillness beckons me
I walk along the path
The eerie sounds of silence
and a fear I hoped would pass

The echoes high within the trees
the whisper of the wind
I was embraced by imagery
that haunted me within

Softly softly through the woods
I heeded to the call
The shadow's song irrupting there
I imagine I recalled

The radiant mists enveloping
I plunged into its depths
To somehow lose myself within
each long and lifeless breath

But when I reach the forest's end
to find what lay beyond
Factitiously illuded
was her beauty all along

There are no ghosts to silence me
to haunt me as I wake,
Just those that I imagine
on this nightly path I take.

Beside the River

The mist upon the river banks
Beckons eerily to me.
The beauty and the memory
Of a lifeless form I see.

The radiant face that stood before me,
Whose beauty I embraced,
The ghostly sullen silence,
When again my steps I traced.

The lapping of the water
Irrupts upon my mind,
Some tortured kind of comfort
By the river now I find.

How dare you stand and look at me
Factitious is your grief,
The tears I shed comfort me
And bring me great relief.

Imagine for a moment

That the path I tread were yours,
Would you not seal your soul
And lock your hearts doors?

So when you look at me and see my pain,
And how tortured are my days,
Be kind, be gentle and look away ~
Allow me my grieving ways.

The Creature of Shay Park

One cannot imagine the horror of that morning,
A lone beauty strolling through the eerie early light,
A ghostly shadow, embraces the heavily laden earth,
She beckons him with her radiance,
This thing that feeds off the living,
A howl irrupts from somewhere in the lifeless wood,
This is not a factitious howl,
But the fierce hunger of a ravenous beast,
She screams as he suddenly jumps from behind a tree,
His fierce laughter brings her out of fright,
She punches him over and over,
As she slowly walks away,
Her husband left laughing and in pain,
Lying upon the wet earth in a tormented agony,
The laughter seizing his sides,
"I only wanted a little bite," He tries to call out,
"Oh, but darling," She replies as she emerges from the fog, "So do I."
She smiles so sweetly, as she rips out and devours his heart,
A howl rising from her throat as she engorges herself with his flesh.

On the Edge of a Dream

Along the ghostly path of my dream
An eerie radiant moon pierces silent shadows.
Like imaginary phantoms of the Opera
Swirling fingers of fog beckon to me.

Along the path I glimpse lifeless shapes of trees,
Their factitious beauty coldly enveloping my soul.
But I'm not afraid, for yonder in the distance
A bright dawn irrupts on the velvety horizon.

A Dark Memory

Alone I walk this pathway through the winter mist
The shadows of the of the sun
Casting a ghostly watch over this grand old garden
Sending an eerie chill though my very soul

In the embrace of this time
I imagine the beauty of a moonlight night
That Beckons to my lonely heart
To release the lost spirits from within my mind

Lifting my head as I walked
My tears glisten like radiant diamonds
As my mind irrupts into the memories
Of a time when one broke a child

With his cruel fictitious ways
He took my innocents away
I remember the loneliness and the helplessness
A lifeless feeling of worthlessness and betrayal

The reflections of this time now long past
Hidden deep within my yesterdays
In the shadows of time
I walk through this mist and on into the light
For I know now that all is right

Yawping in the Woods

In the stillness of the early morning hours, you can plainly see the lifeless world outside. The ghostly and eerie sounds of, the morn beckons my curiosity. I know I am not hearing imaginary sound.

This is actually quite radiant for a midnight moon wolf, as I find my way through it all to embrace the beauty of everything. I irrupt in a passionate and strong YAWP, because I know this isn’t a factitious event I am going through.

I walk through the wooded area, looking at all the dormant trees, the dead grass, the fine misty fog of the morn and enjoying the cool air that seems to be clinching at my very being. I hold it in my arms, hoping to never let it go. The moon is still glowing in the woods.

The encirclement of it all brings a great comfort to my soul. I welcome the whole of it; into my body, because I am after all, the Midnight Moon Wolf.
