Week 1

ABC Challenge

The mini challenge for this week is to write an ABC poem.
What is an ABC poem, you ask?
It is like an Acrostic poem, only instead of using a word, we use the letters of the alphabet. Now we know there are 26 letters in the alphabet so if you choose to write using ALL 26 letters, that's fine. But as this is a Mini, you write up to as many letters as you wish BUT no less than ten. That gives you A through to J.
Remember, each line MUST begin with the consecutive letters of the alphabet.

A simple life is what I yearn
Brimming with all the things
Cherished forever within the heart
Destiny, hope and therein -
Every blessing from up above
Found within life's bouquet
Gifts of that which I can't live without
Honour my wish every day -
I'd love to have each one granted
Joyously while I await
Kaleidescope dreams together
Lovingly in your embrace.

Away in a manager
Baby is sleeping
Carols by sweet angels singing
Donkeys are braying.
Ethereal light is shining
Finding a stable
Great time of rejoicing
Hark the herald Angels sing
Immanuel is born
Joyous the mood
Kings on their camels
Lambs in the stable
Mary is beaming
Neighing of horses
Out in the night air
Pleasure this is bringing
Questions are asked
Run shepherd run
Straw in a manager
Time of great pleasure
Understanding little
Victory for all
With a baby so small
Xchelsis Gloria
Yearning for peace
Zealots are questioning.

A wee little fae
Bothered by light
Climbed into a dark hole
Dank and dark as the night
Evil smells surrounded her
Frightened, she cried
Graining boldness
Her wings all a-flutter
In an instant she flew out
Just as the sun went down for the night

Another day
Boring as bats in a cave
Cold as ice and snow
Dreary as a winter sky
Everything remains the same
Forgotten with each tick of time
Geez I wish something would change
Happen and give me a big surprise
It's always a day like this
Just for once, a lil excitement - please?

An alphabet poem
Beginning with each letter
Creating something readable
Depending upon your outlook
Even if only
For a moment
Good or bad
However you feel
I will
Jump through hoops
Kick up my heels
Land on my feet
More or less
Never skipping a beat
Or so I hope
Playing around
Quickly
Revising if need be
So you can
Tell that I
Used each letter
Very
Wisely but if
X-Rayed
You would see it’s
Zen for me

All new life
Baby's beginnings
Can you see her?
Does this not amaze?
Everyone gather round
For a special time
Greeting her into the world
Holding her close
Intent on finding love in their hearts for one more
Just for this new being
Kindly kissing her tiny head
Lavishing adoration upon her
Mending old fences with the family
Now and forever
Only for the sake of the infant
Pleasingly comforting one and all
Quickly accepting mom, dad and brother
Reacting to their voices
She reaches out to them
Touching them tenderly
Understanding she is finally here
Victory, in the arms of her mother
Will others accept her?
xoxoxoxoxoxoxo to you my darling
YOU, need them little one... welcome to this
Zany little clan!

Just for friends that I have met
Keep it going for everyone left
Love will continue to grow
My love I send to bestow

All my thoughts and words
Beneath these emotions of mine,
Cannot escape without some help
Does it mean my mind's confined.

Even so, I still find hope...

For every word that I get out
Gives me hope for another day,
HE is with me when I struggle so
I know he hears what I have to say.
Just give me time to settle in
Kiss the kids when they go to bed,
Let me gather all my thoughts as one
Maybe then I can clear my head.

Nobody knows the depth of me
Only those who do truly care,
Please kiss the ones you say you love
Quietly someday they won't be there.

Rest assured HE knows each one of us
Silently he touches the soul of all,
Under all my thoughts there's a simple wish
Visit with HIM on the day he calls.

When all is said from inside my mind
Xcept when a new days arrives,
You'll read my thoughts I have released
Zeroing in on our new found lives.

At last I finally found you sitting alone
By the garden under the tree my dear
Could you please look at me, I have looked everywhere for my
Darling daughter, with a smile so fair
Everything has crumbled for you I know it doesn't seem
Fair to you, with all you have given and sacrificed
Give love a chance to grow, don't run away only because
He hasn't been true to his feelings for you, his lies could have been for reason
In the end you will see, his love was for you and you alone
Just give him the chance to explain, to show he is true to only you
Knowing he has hurt you and disappointment has come clear
Let God guide you now through the pain and show you the path to take
Melting into his heart and seeing his intentions were true and real
Never doubt the love you feel in your heart for someone
Openyour eyes and see what is before you, it won't ever be
Perfect or easy, love takes time and nurturing from your loving heart, never
Quit or walk away from a love that you know was once yours
Remember the memories you have
Shared and the love you each have
Together, the honest deep love and feelings
Under the blue skies and moons you have laid in each-others arms, never
Veer from the understanding you have in each others love
Whether it be over or just the start of a new day my darling daughter
X-ray your heart over again and make sure this isn't the man you
Yearn for or that your heart will ache for in all eternity
Zoom in on what is real and love what has been given to you, placed before you today.

Zealous for Tomorrow

Another day has passed us by,
bewildered I look up to the sky,
crying tears, which fall in vain,
denial helps to ease my pain...

Eventually the tides will turn,
finally my soul will cease to burn,
gracefully I will put out the flame,
hindering the walk from where I came...

Instantly gray skies will fade away,
joyously we will share of our day,
kindred spirits are finally whole,
loving you has always been my goal...

Maternal instincts fill me with shame,
noting internally, I failed the game,
opening the door to what should have been,
pushing aside the betrayal of our kin...

Quietly I will take your precious hand,
running and playing across foreign land,
silliness and laughter will fill our days,
together we will diminish the dull haze...

United are our souls, this was His Plan,
vengeance into our lives will not span,
wandering along our joined pathway,
xylophones playing throughout our day...

Yesteryear has nothing to gain,
Zealous...for tomorrow I will remain...

A unicorn stood
By an old oak tree
Calling to others
Dominant one of the herd
Everyone came
From wherever they were
Greatly desiring to see her
Here and now
Icy snowflakes gently fell
Just blanketing the meadow
Knightly steeds trotted up
Lovingly nuzzling their mother
Mother unicorn looked around
Near and far, all her children
One by one paying homage
Prancing and dancing in show
Quiet settled as they all in
Rapture listened to her
Story, her winter's tale
Telling of her life and experiences
Unicorns bowed their heads
Valiantly honoring their mother
Who would soon be passing her
Xcellent [sorry, lol] knowledge to the
Young one now ruling the herd, as the

Week 2

Carpe Diem Challenge

Carpe diem - Latin expression that means ’seize the day.’
Carpe diem poems have a theme of living for today.
Seize the day and write either a poem or a few paragraphs about living for today. Submitting it through the Literary Garden Group so we can all share. See what you can with it - can be serious or a little humorous.

Carpe Diem

Seize the day
Grab with both hands
See if you can make it
Fit to your plans.

Organize and arrangements make
Plot and plan and scheme
See if you can make it fit
Into part of your dream.

Having seized the day
I have it arranged,
Then something happens
And it has all been changed.

The world in it's haste
With it's unforgiving ways,
Makes me wonder about seizing
and my busy busy days.

But with time to contemplate
I know what it means.
That I must reach out
And stretch to my dreams.

I will seize the day
And the best of it will make,
Gathering strength for my journey
With each step that I take.

I will tackle the day with enthusiasm,
Grateful I will be in the morning,
When I see the fading velvet night
And welcome each new dawning.

Give me strength to go on
To seize and use each sweet day,
I know that I am specially blessed
As I go on my way.

Seize the Day!

Life is an opportunity
a precious gift to share
A tapestry of beauty
embroidered everywhere

While silent benefaction
entwined in vast array
Serves as a reminder
of each blessing today

To feel the sun cascading
from the sky above
To touch a heart that's breaking
with a gracious look of love

To cry the tears of sorrow
when all else seems lost
To hold the hand of friendship
when it is needed most

To find joy amidst sadness
and smile through the pain
To hear the sound of laughter
and learn to live again

To discard the cynicism
of negativity
To seize the day we're given
as an opportunity

To learn to count your blessings
and never letting go
Of each and every precious gift
upon us that's bestowed

To never take for granted
one moment, you'll regret -
But live as if tomorrow
is the last you'll ever get!

As we move
Teaching us patience and love
Bringing hope as it lights our way

Seize the Day

Reach out and seize this day and I shall be there with you to hold it close to our hearts. Live for today because I may not be here tomorrow, you may not be here tomorrow, lets live for what we have here today. Lets embellish upon what HE has given us today after all the treatments are done ... another moment, another breath, another day to hold one another and tell each other how much our love means to us. Seize this day and hold it in your hand for me, I can see you standing silently as you wait for me to stand next to you. Hold me in your arms and place this day upon me, never let this day go away, keep this day safe for me ... if I am not here tomorrow, just know that I took a moment of HIS precious time he has allotted me and I seized the day with all my might ... this day was ours, this day was mine.

To seize the day one must hold in heart,
Never let any of the time drift apart.
Hold each moment keeping it close,
Even just savoring an order of toast.

Seize the day and all those remarks.
Company came stayed till late,
I went to sleep not finished create.

No need to worry as God looks after me,
He gives another day to us for free.
New day has awakened at dawn,
Showing its beauty to be drawn.

Do it anyway
Say I love you, one more time
Embrace life, while you feel fine

Working and saving a ton
For a day that may never come
Life is unpredictable
Don’t let time slip away, while you’re capable

Use me as and example
I worked and worked, as much as I was able
One day, some day, my time I’d have rearranged
In a moment, my life changed

Doctors can’t explain
The damage to my brain
Unable to work now
My life changed, and how

Don’t let time just drift away

Carpe diem those words ring true for me
It was about last year this time you see
That I decided to enroll in college
As I figured I needed more knowledge
Plus I wanted to better my life
By being more than just someones wife
So I seized the day and decided to enroll
Some people laughed and said I was too old
But I believed in me and was determine to prove them wrong
I knew in my heart that I had to carry on and be strong
Now I am about to earn my associates degree
And I am about as proud and happy as I could be
I don't plan to stop there though
I plan to continue on you know
Next I plan to earn my bachelors degree
It is my hope that women everywhere will be like me
And do all they can to exceed
And it won't be long and they will succeed
For no matter how young or old you might be
You can all seize the day and better your life just like me
With anything in life don't let others fill your head with dismay
If you are determined you will find a way

Lindamay listens to her dreams at night
Inside a darkness that's filled with sound,
Never dismisses anything she hears
Dreams of memories of past she's found.
All through the night she craves for more
Many would surely not understand,
Although she knows these are only dreams
Yesteryear's are what lays in her hand.

Some say that dreams don't mean a thing
People tease you and call you names,
Inside her dreams she doesn't care
Victory lies in knowing they're all the same.
Every moment she dreams she finds the past
Yesteryear's are moments that forever last.

Before you speak let me say to you
Just turn aside if you don't believe,
Or if you think I am a bit insane
Remember bad thoughts sometimes deceive.
Kiss the moment that you find someone
Lost in the past of our past,
Until you really want to find that link
Not one single moment of a dream will last.
Done.

Week 4

Quote Challenge

In poetry or prose, story or article, choose one of the following quotes and interpret it as you wish
"I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary - the evil it does is permanent."
"We are so accustomed to disguising ourselves to others than in the end we become disguised to ourselves."

I cover my hurt with bravado
Acting my role as a clown,
Hiding myself as I travel,
Not letting the world see my frown.

What does the world see when it looks
As I dress myself in disguise?
Does it see the real person hiding
Or would it bring great surprise.

I present myself and my persona
As what I would like to be seen,
Disguising and hiding the real me
And at times it seems quite mean,

I convince those who observe me
That life is kind and sweet,
That for me the sun is shining
And there are roses at my feet.

It becomes so normal to do this
And the mask is often worn,
Feeling like this in the evening
And also in the morn.

This makes me pose the question
As to whom I really am?
Does it really matter
That sometimes it’s a sham?

There are times when I look
And I fail to see
Amid all the camouflage
There lies the real me.

I need to take the time
To find myself inside
To nurture myself and my needs
And not to merely hide.

Disguise

Sitting behind a keyboard
What is portrayed through the screen
What is the picture we present
Are we pleasant or are we mean?

Do we disguise ourselves
Or are we honest and true?
Do we share things about ourselves
Do we open the door and come through?

We sit in our parts of the world
And allow those who will to come in,
WE often hide the real “me”
Amid all the noise and the din.

There is no voice to hear or face to see ~
It is simply a matter of trust,
True friendships can be made here
And others turn to dust.

A phrase typed out can often be
Misinterpreted and misread,
Hurt and pain can happen here
By something that is said.

It is easy to be a shadow
And to forget the real you
Be honest and true and kind
In everything you do.

Violence

Why violence should never be,
One needs to be able to get free.
The scars it leaves in ones heart,
Will never ever leave or depart.
In depth of ones soul the hurt will remain,
This pain of past is always profane.
Forgiving easy to give as time passes by,
It will happen again causing you to cry.
The hurt of the abuse is never healed,
So walk away keep yourself shield.

Violence is not deserving to anyone of us,
It only kills our feelings causes us to distrust.
It is a sickness with him and not your fault,
This is what causes him to assault.
The black eyes, bruises will be mended,
Tearing scares of your heart be relented.
There are people and places to help out,
They will look after and protect you throughout.
Pray God help you get out of harms way,
By remaining makes your heart decay.

You look at me and like what you see, but what you do not know is that what you see is really not me. I love you so much that I will not show you who I really am, only what you want to see of me, the meek, mild and passive individual you think I am. How could I have let myself get so wrapped up inside of you and your control that I would feel it necessary to disguise the person I really am, just to hold onto something that would not care for anyone but yourself. How could I allow myself to become a different person just so you would love me, so that you would never leave me, so that you could control me. How blind can a person become to feel they have to be so totally dependent upon another, to become another, to think they will find happiness. I have been with you for so long that I no longer feel I could ever be me. I have disguised myself to you for so many years that I actually believed I was the person you wanted me to be! No more disguises, no more sadness and no more you!

Violence to young children and young minds
Be it physical or mental is harmful and lasting
Think of the children, who look up to a parent for love and understanding
and receive scolding and put downs instead
Think of a child trying to come to terms with not being loved,
wanted, or feeling in the way
Think of the children, now grown adults who have to make their way in the world
Who feel they have prove to the world that they are worthy
and wonder the person they love, truly loves them back
Think of the time wasted for enjoying their life
If only they could have loved and been loved back

Disguise

Washing away my face today, I forgot who I was supposed to be.
Becoming my own tormentor, I forgot what it was to be me.
Allowing judgment of others to form my acceptable, societal being
Masking the true person inside that is unparallel to any.
We are so accustomed to disguising ourselves to others that
In the end we become disguised to ourselves, but only for an instant.
Because when we truly see our reflection despite its many flaws,
The sense of self is overwhelming clear to you and is clear to all.

Candles

"I adore candles - they are so flattering and sooooooooooo romantic - dinner by candlelight reflecting the bubbles in the wine, a long warm bath by candlelight. perfumed candles shedding the beauty of their light and their fragrance."
"Not a day goes by that I don't light a candle at my desk and remember absent friends."

Please write - Using the above quotes or just write from your heart - in whatever form you wish something about candles and their beauty. This can be poetry, a story, a true event, Acrostic, just whatever stirs your muse.

The Perfumed Candle

Your friendship was a candle
Which shone upon my way,
You showed your care for me
As I wandered through my day.

A light of tender wisdom
Which fluttered in the breeze,
The gentle glow of companionship
On spring days such as these.

The fragrance of your kindness
Perfumed my life it’s true,
Reminding me you were special
And that I could count on you.

The flame burned strong
And often guided me.
Surrounded by the fragrance
You were friend to me.

The time moved on
And the flame burned low,
My heart was sore ,
As I watched you go.

The candle now small
The warmth now gone
No more light from you……
But the fragrance lingers on.

Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness

I always light candles when taking a bath, or when I want a quiet time to myself.
To light one for a loved one who is sick, or for a loved one who is no longer with us in this realm.
I love candlelight dinners, and my father did too, so we always had a candelabra on our dining room table lit with each Saturday evening meal.
My mothers sister, who lived with us during this time, hated eating by candlelight and would complain each time that she couldn't see what she was eating.
One evening, my father got up from the table after listening quietly to one of her rants, and left the room. We continued eating, assuming he had to go to the little boys room, but we should have known better. He came back moments later and walked over to our aunt and put something on her head.
Suddenly we were flooded with light! He had put a miners hat on her head, the type with the light on top. I still remember the laughter.

Candle

A candle lit with the fragrance,
Of memory from my past.
The lingering scent filling,
The air that I breath forever last.

The feeling of your arms around me,
Magic of us together were thrilling.
Now that you are gone forever,
This candle can set my heart free.

I know that life will move on,
Time will help me oversee.
This candle shall always be forgone,
Another candle to follow along.

Night Eyes

Fire
The inferno of
Heat
Flame
Burning with passion
On a solitary wick
Dancing in darkness
The hypnotic waltz
To the tune of crickets
And distant rivers
Of this wooded realm
Giving off light
To bats in the night
But receiving not

Inhaling the Fragrances of Yesterday

I sense your closeness within the darkness of the night as your fragrance lingers nearby. I had forgotten that you were still here within this room. After she passed away I left you burning until you would burn no more. Your aroma has embedded itself within the still air and it brings a touch of the past into my mind, and with this comes her silent presence.

Come linger with me some more, join me as I inhale the memories of yesterday and cry for the depth of the loss I feel for her. Let me light your wick one more time, burn for me, burn for her ... then I will let you go.

The Candle in the Mirror

I was bored
The TV was blaring but like usual nothing was on
I saw the candle
It made me remember happier times
Lighted candles on my birthday cakes,
Bubble baths with my lover
Scented candles that I often burned
To fragrance my house
I remembered too
The candle in the window that grandma always put out
Each Christmas Eve
I turned out the lights
And went and lit that candle
I walked room to room
Reminiscing on happier times
I stopped in front of a mirror
It was the one my grandmother gave me
Many years ago
I looked at the exquisite woodwork
Fondly remembering how Grandmother cherished it so
I reached out to touch it
But I stopped when suddenly
In the glass
I saw my reflection staring back at me
I held the candle closer
Who is that woman I see I asked myself out loud
I appeared to be a scarred version of my former self
The candles light danced upon my face
Somehow now not a friend but a foe
The light from the candle reflected someone I didn't want to know
I looked older than my years and lonely
Even though I tried to look away
I knew I couldn't
I stared back into my eyes and looked further
Into the depths of my soul
Somehow with the candle flame flickering in my eyes
I saw myself fully for who I was
The candles rich perfume caused me to close my eyes
I inhaled deeply
I opened my eyes again and I looked once more at my face
In the mirror
Somehow that time
It didn't look as harsh
I saw a reflection of what I could be
What I used to be
I made a vow
That in time and with work
I would shed off that skin
That I saw reflected there
And the beauty I am deep within
That somehow I only knew existed
Would show itself once more
And I wouldn't ever have to see myself like that again
Alone in a mirror
With only a lighted candle illuminating my
Scarred self
I blew out the candle and cried.
