DIANNE'S BIRD CAKE

Save all the fat drippings from the grill pan and roasting dish. When you have enough collected, melt it all down again and add any or all of the following :

breadcrumbs

biscuit crumbs

chopped peanuts

sunflower seeds

bird seed (wild or pet)

small amount of cooked meat scraps (chopped finely)

leftover cooked rice, pasta, potato, etc (but only a little if cooked with salt)

freeze dried mealworms

 

Mix in as much of the dried stuffs as the fat will hold and combine well then put in a pan, tray or other container (yoghurt pots can be hung up for the small birds when set – poke a twig through to act as a perch) and place in the refrigerator till set firm.

Large “cakes” can be cut or broken up and put on a bird table or on the ground if safe from cats, small ones can be hung up.
